Crisler Center welcome enthusiastic fans and fellow veterans to cheer on the Army vs. Navy Wheelchair Basketball players for the 14th annual game.
Led by Grand Marshal, Eric Fretz, Chairman of the Veterans Community Action Team (VCAT) Region 9 and Faculty Lecturer at the University of Michigan, and joined by guest speaker Rich Luterman, Chief Meteorologist at Fox 2 Detroit, the game included great athletes and entertainment.
Specialist Derek Storey, US Army, participated in the game as a saxophone bandmember, showing his support alongside the rest of the 338th Army Band.
“Being able to take part in bringing awareness to those who served and sacrificed so much for this country is an amazing feeling,” said Storey. “Not only that, but I get to use the skills I’ve developed as a musician in a unique way by putting on the uniform and supporting them the best way I know how.”
In addition to the 338th Army Band, other performers during the game were the U-M Cheerleading Team, U-M Dance Team, U-M Men’s Glee Club, and DJ EII.
The game was evenly matched on both sides of the ball, with a 24-24 score going into halftime. Ultimately, Navy pulled out a close victory over Army, 47-44.
